New Year, New Me, New Job

I have decided that this year I will write blogs about significant things happening in my life. A new idea for a new year. So, to begin with, I write about the most important thing going on for me in 2009...

On Friday, I completed my first week in a new job. I was sad to leave my old place, I'd got used to it and the people were really very nice. I knew them all well and it was safe. But, I have never felt that we should go through life being always safe, taking the easy route. Sometimes, we need to do something 'risky'.

So, although I knew I would miss everyone in my old job, at the same time, I was excited to be beginning a new phase in my life. I was more nervous than I expected to be on the first day. Before starting a new job, I think a small part of everyone will wonder if they've done the right thing. I spent the first week feeling my way around and trying to get a better idea of what the heart of the job is about. It was a little scary, I was nervous about giving my opinion and worried about saying anything that would annoy/bother/offend people. What I found was encouraging; the project I'm working on is fascinating. It seems to be a tremendous opportunity to use my technical and creative skills, the latter of which I was sometimes missing before.

I feel this is going to be a positive experience in my life. It will be interesting to see if my future blog posts bear that out.
